Melodic melancholia.

The drums and arrangements may have evolved around it, but melody has always remained central to Sascha Ring’s craft. Cast an ear back to 2001’s Multifunktionsebene and it’s there wafting over the IDM-informed glitch; fast-forward to 2011’s Devil’s Walkand it’s leading delicate songs you could hear on the radio. In the time between these two full-lengths Ring became one of Germany’s preeminent electronic artists. 2006’s Orchestra of Bubbles alongside fellow Berliner Ellen Allien hit as interest in the sounds of the city were reaching fever pitch. A similarly Berlin-centric project was conceived in 2009 with the release of Moderat, Ring’s collaboration with Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary of Modeselektor. His live solo material had by this point taken on the form of a band, set-up to tour his crossover full-length Walls. The show was expanded upon for last year’s Devil’s Walk, Ring’s most introverted and traditionally structured offering yet.

After only a few years in the scene, Anile has made a serious impact on Drum and Bass. With releases on Renegade Hardware, Broken Audio, Cylon and Hospital Records’ experimental offshoot label, Med School, Anile has been making a name for himself, producing everything from deep, minimal musicality to dark, tech-y moodiness. His varied styles are translated into exciting and experimental sets and we are looking forward to welcoming him to Med School in Room Three at Hospitality Bristol on Friday 6th October. This mix should give you an idea of what we can expect from Anile’s set in October. Enjoy.

Amani of Desert Dwellers tastefully weaves soundscapes that immerse the listener in a journey to inner spaces and otherworldly sonic dimensions. He is a pioneering electronic music producer in the realms of electronic, dub and world fusion, having spent the past 24 years exploring where these dynamic styles of music co-exist. As the primary creative force behind the Desert Dwellers music catalog, Amani has produced six albums for White Swan Records in a series called DownTemple Dub. His latest offering in 2012 is called DownTemple Dub: Remixed, drawing on an amazing network of cutting edge ethnic-dub music producers to re-imagine the earlier Desert Dwellers chill yoga tracks into a kaleidoscope of midtempo breaks and ornately textured ambience.

Aside from Desert Dwellers, Amani has also co-founded the YogiTunes digital music store, where he is currently head of A&R and music acquisition; he has produced several full length Desert Dwellers albums on the YogiTunes music label; he has co-founded an electronic music label with music partner Treavor Moontribe called Desert Trax, featuring two more Desert Dwellers remix albums in 2012 called Recalibrated vol 1 & 2; he has remixed artists such as Karsh Kale, David Starfire, Kalya Scintilla, EarthRise SoundSystem, Adham Shaikh, Deva Premal, Jai Uttal, Donna DeLory, Girish, and Deep Forest, and his music can be heard on countless yoga DVDs by teachers such as Shiva Rea, Hemalayaa, and Duncan Wong; in addition to Desert Dwellers, Amani is involved in many other unique music collaborations such as Shaman’s Dream, Liquid Bloom, Variant Field, and Chase the Lazer; he is also known as a visionary artist, graphic designer, and produces the majority of his album covers.
